Spring 2010: Trend Intelligence

In lieu of the various fashion weeks approaching-Washington, D.C.(Feb. 15-21st), Crystal City, Virginia and of course New York City's Bryant Park(Feb.11th-18th- all reminders that what we were introduced to in September will soon be a past we are somehow trying frantically to keep up with) , I've compiled a diary (of my opinion) of the most amazing pieces from this Spring's U.S. collections, complete with my favorite renditions. This is every trend-partisan girl's fantasies.  The goods are bad ya'll.  Real talk.

important themes

The Hybrid Theory:  structured active wear cross-pollinates with fetishism.
Palette: Subdued-Think deep and rich (navy, black) with bursts of pastels (hibiscus green, lavender).  Or neutrals, (the sage gray, taupe).

Inside Out:  work the more sheer, illicit pieces in such fabrics (chiffon, lace, tule, crinoline) with easy fitting pants or layered in ways that make the imagination run wild with curiosity.
Palette:  Dusty shades of blush, berry, ice blue and neutrals like strawberry blonde -wood.

Pattern Particulars: More is definitely more this season.  Mix and match patterns (ex: florals and graphics, animal and paisley) by choosing a dominant color in each piece to bring the look together in a way that doesn't look chaotic.

Service Express: gone for a while but certainly not forgotten, ,military inspired looks ambushed the runways.  There is room for experimentation here.  Camouflage, Cargo and other utilitarian pieces are appropriate.

Homespun: little house on the prairie cum Japanese cosplay (character dress), this trend is really about home made luxe.  Fluffy frills, embroidery, tiers, full spinning skirts, x's o's hearts, chex and any other little extras that make you feel like a kid again.  It's buoyant bliss!

Clean Spirit: a trend for the minimalist in us all.  Think structure, sexy tailoring and skin where you want it, not where you think it is supposed to be.
Palette: Nude-White, Creme, Heather Gray
